Listen up, bub. After seventeen years and nine films (ten if you count the paper mask Ryan Reynolds briefly staples to his face in Deadpool), Hugh Jackman is finally retiring from playing Wolverine, with the upcoming solo movie Logan as his swansong. It seemed only right, therefore, that Cinema’s Longest-Serving Superhero earn one last Empire cover in the role – a fitting send-off indeed. Behold the cover below, as first revealed by Hugh himself, posted today to his seven million Twitter followers.

This fiery cover is just the tip of the adamantium iceberg: inside this month's issue, our cover story does a deep dive into Logan, with in-depth interviews from Jackman, Sir Patrick Stewart, and director James Mangold on how they made a genre-defying superhero movie.

Plus, this month we devote 24 pages to pay tribute to Carrie Fisher; visit the international set of Kong: Skull Island; and head east to clamber over The Great Wall.

All that, and the usual movie exclusives, news, reviews, analysis and bad jokes you've come to expect from the world’s biggest movie magazine. Issue #333 of Empire hits all good and evil newsagents from Thursday 27 January, with subscribers getting theirs a few days earlier as usual. Subscribe to Empire here{ =nofollow}.

Logan, meanwhile, arrives in cinemas from 3 March. Enjoy your retirement, bub.
