We might not be seeing him as Will Graham for much longer, with Hannibal cancelled by its Stateside channel, but Hugh Dancy won’t be off our screens permanently. He’s now joined Hulu series The Way.
With Dancy’s casting comes some fresh detail on the story, which also features Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan. The Way – which according to Entertainment Weekly is a working title – focuses on a couple (Paul and Monaghan) in a cult movement led by the charismatic Cal Roberts (Dancy). When he becomes entangled in a complicated relationship with the other two, it causes problems for all three. Especially as Cal is battling his own fears and demons even as he tries to advance the organisation’s cause.
Jessica Goldberg is writing the series, ramping up to shoot a 10-episode first season in New York this September for a likely arrival in 2016.
While there’s still some flicker of hope that Dancy and co. can return to Hannibal in some fashion (even if it’s just for the occasional special or TV movie), the Thomas Harris adaptation appears over for now, especially with its cast and crew moving on to other jobs. Dancy will also be seen in miniseries Deadline Gallipoli, which is filming now.
