Horrible Histories Movie In The Works

Horrible Histories The Movie

Something of a surprise given the popularity of the TV series, a film adapted from the Horrible Histories books is now in production, albeit without the leads of the show itself. This separate film, which aims to spear the Rotten Romans (subtitle alert!) will instead feature the likes of Nick Frost, Kim Cattrall, Rupert Graves and Warwick Davis.

The movie, as you might be able to deduce from the subtitle, partly takes place in Roman-controlled Britain, and focuses on Atti (Sebastian Croft, no stranger to swords after Game Of Thrones).

A Roman teenager with brains but very little brawn, he's always coming up with clever schemes.

When one falls foul of Emperor Nero, (Craig Roberts) he is forced to join the army and is sent to miserable, cold, wet Britain where the natives are revolting – quite literally.

Captured by spiky teenage Celt Orla (Emilia Jones), desperate to prove herself as a warrior, the two form an unlikely bond. Yet when Atti gets back to the army, he discovers that his regiment are set for a showdown with the Celts at the Battle of Watling Street.

Also included in the cast are Alexander Armstrong, Lee Mack and Derek Jacobi, sportingly reprising one of his most famous roles, as Claudius. And if you were worried that no one from the show would be involved, there is at least Sarah Hadland, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Dave Lamb, Jessica Ransom, Tom Stourton, Dominique Moore, Richard David-Caine, Lawry Lewin, Katy Wix and Katherine Jakeways, who all guested in at least one episode.

The show's regular director Dominic Brigstocke will make his film debut, working from a script by Jessica Swale, Giles Pilbrow and Caroline Norris. It'll be out on 26 July next year.
