After departing from Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain this week, Brad Pitt has been anything but tardy in eyeing up another project and is poised to take a role that even Russell 'I am Man' Crowe would be envious of. Crushing lesser men beneath his feet, Brad will play the original hunk himself, the Greek fighter Achilles, in Troy, Wolfgang Petersen’s epic adaptation of Homer's Iliad. The story all sparks off – as ever with these things – with Helen, wife of the King of Sparta bunking off with a younger man from the city of Troy. The biggest and best battle of all time that ensues boasts the ultimate hero in Achilles. With the rather unfair advantage of being almost physically invulnerable after his mother dunked him in the river of the underworld – forgetting of course to dip that proverbial heel in the miraculous waters – Achilles is also famous for sporting the latest in fearsome armour and for throwing quite awesome girly strops. We'll just have to wait and see what Peterson will make of Homer's warrior and all his complexities. What’s the bet that Achilles', shall we say, rather intimate, relationship with his best mate, Patroclus, doesn't see the final cut?
