Back in August, the web and the wider world got a little frothy at the thought that Disney wanted to reboot 1990s Christmas classic Home Alone. There was disbelief, a little disgust and a funny response from Macaulay Culkin. Now that we have our first pieces of casting news for the latest movie, it would appear that it won't be a direct remake of the Chris Columbus film, and that Rob Delaney, Ellie Kemper and Jojo Rabbit's Archie Yates will star in something slightly fresher than we feared.
Currently working titled Home Alone, the movie, which has Dan Mazer on to direct Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell's script, will see Yates not actually playing Culkin's Kevin McCallister, but a kid who is somehow left alone and ends up taking something from Delaney and Kemper's characters. Early reports had them playing his parents, but that seems to have evolved as the hours have gone by.
How much this new film – which will likely end up with a new title, making us wonder why they didn't just start with a whole new idea anyway – will be a Fox production for Disney Plus.
