There may still be some who don’t believe that a sequel to 2012’s **Jack Reacher **is actually happening, but director Ed Zwick is rolling the cameras right now on Jack Reacher: Never Go Back in New Orleans. And though the production is already under way, he’s still boosting the cast contingent, with character specialist Holt McCallany joining the line-up.

Back when the sequel was first mooted, the plan was for it to adapt 2013's Never Go Back, Child's eighteenth Reacher novel. That plot would see Reacher heading back to his old military base in Virginia, to be charged with a violent incident and faced with a paternity case, neither of which transgression he remembers. Richard Wenk worked on initial drafts of the screenplay, but it's now been re-written by Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz. Still, the use of the book’s title in the film’s name makes us think the team is using a version of the story.

Tom Cruise is, of course, back as Reacher, joined this time around by Austin Herbert, Cobie Smulders, Danika Yarosh, Aldis Hodge and Patrick Heusinger. Exactly what McCallany will be doing in the film isn’t mentioned in Variety’s report, but he is the sort of tough guy we could see going up against Cruise’s main man. The film will be out on October 21 next year.
