His Dark Materials was an impressive TV feat last year, adapting Philip Pullman's book trilogy for small screens with an epic scale. Season 2 is on its way in November and a new trailer is online.
The new season begins after Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) has opened a bridge to a new world, and, distraught over the death of her best friend, Lyra (Dafne Keen) follows Asriel into the unknown. In a strange and mysterious abandoned city she meets Will (Amir Wilson), a boy from our world who is also running from a troubled past. Lyra and Will learn their destinies are tied to reuniting Will with his father but find their path is constantly thwarted as a war begins to brew around them. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) searches for Lyra, determined to bring her home by any means necessary.
And the new season also promises a giant war between Asriel's allies and the Magisterium, which is bent on keeping anyone from learning the secrets of the parallel worlds.
Airing on HBO in the US and the BBC here, we don't have an exact date for its return just yet, beyond that November announcement.
