Though the worldwide pandemic almost got its claws into series 2 – one standalone episode was abandoned – but His Dark Materials fought back and the new run will be with us next month. To remind us, a new trailer is online.
Series 2 follows the continuing adventures of Dafne Keen's Lyra Belacqua who (spoiler alert if you've yet to catch up to the end of the first) moving between the worlds, and her first meeting with Will Parry (Amir Wilson). The pair finds themselves in the mysterious mediterranean-style city of Cittàgazze, haunted by spectres and full of danger, and where they'll realise more about their destinies.
In their own world, the Magisterium is gearing up for a huge war to maintain their control, and the Witches are set for battle against them. Oh, and then there's Lin-Manuel Miranda's Lee Scoresby, who is looking to find his friend Lyra, and seeks some assistance from Andrew Scott's character, about whom we'll say no more to avoid ruining for those who have not read the books.
His Dark Materials should be returning to BBC One on 15 November, followed by a 16 November launch in the States via HBO.
