Like, this could totally be the most exciting thing ever. Disney's insanely popular - with a certain segment of the population - High School Musical franchise is leaping from small to big screen with its third instalment, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, and the trailer is online now, for all your choreographed teenager needs. Check it out, should you wish, here.
For those of you above the age of 12, and therefore not in the know, the series is set in a pastel-coloured high school where the students spend less time shooting each other / shooting up and more time breaking into elaborately staged musical numbers, their routines dictated by the mood swings of the popular kids, basketball and musical star Troy (Zac Efron), his brainy girlfriend Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) and drama queen Sharpay* (Ashley Tinsdale), who often tries to keep the dream couple apart for reasons too silly to explain. The results are a bit like the Andrex puppy: wildly enthusiastic, kinda cute in an obvious way, but ultimately soft rather than strong.
We're sensing a few nods to a certain Travolta/Newton-John musical this time, only without the sex, drugs, violence and rock 'n' roll. Still, it is worth knowing that this is out there. If you're trying to curry favour with a rich widow / widower with young children, a trip to see this will pretty much seal the deal with the kiddies, and land you in the mansion in minutes. So there is a point to this franchise, honest.
