It’s not often that we report on TV shows here on Empire (although anyone reading James Dyer’s blogs might beg to differ), but since Heroes: Origins – the six-part Heroes spin-off that will air during the mid-season hiatus of the awesome superhero show – has bulked itself up with some serious movie muscle, we hope you’ll permit us this rare indulgence.
For, relatively hot on the heels of the news that Kevin Smith will write and direct the first episode of the show, which aims to introduce a new super-powered character every week, with viewers voting at the end of the season for their favourite to be introduced into the Heroes universe proper, comes news that Hostel director Eli Roth and Superman Returns/X-Men 2 writer Michael Dougherty will also write episodes.
In fact, Roth – who’s a big, big fan of the show – will also direct his episode. It seems, though, that Dougherty - whose directorial debut, Trick'r'Treat, is out later this year - will not be picking up a megaphone this time around.
And, erm, that’s all the news that’s fit to print so far. But our interest in Heroes: Origins, which we initially thought would be a mere gimmick, is rising all the time – so stay tuned, as they say in TV circles, for more exciting developments. No flipping!
