If you caught Hereditary at any point in the last year, chances are you’re still recovering. Ari Aster’s culty horror delved to some truly upsetting, unsettling depths, with incredible performances from Toni Collette and co. Well, get those nerves steeled – the director is already back with another dose of freaky folklore, this time titled Midsommar and boasting a top cast including Florence Pugh and Will Poulter. The first trailer has arrived, hinting at another creepy shocker with even more of a Wicker Man vibe, this time washed out in unnervingly bright frames.

The trailer shows Pugh and a bunch of fellow backpackers heading to a nightmarish festival – not the Glastonbury kind, this one looks much sunnier – which looks to involve all kinds of bizarre rituals and disappointingly few pissed-up singalongs. What you will find are more Hereditary-esque ancient runes, menacing doodles, as well as some upsettingly graphic bear innards, and a cast rounded out by Jack Reynor and William Jackson Harper – aka The Good Place’s Chidi.

This mid-summer nightmare’s dream will hit US cinemas this summer on 9 August – and it looks like UK audiences will get it just a week later on the 16th.
