Bridgerton might be dominating the period romance conversation at the moment, but Netflix isn't forgetting one of the all-time great authors in the satirical/political/romantic sphere. A new adaptation [albeit set in modern times] of Jane Austen's Persuasion is in the works, with Henry Golding aboard to play Mr. Elliot.
Dakota Johnson is already attached to the lead role of Anne Elliot, a non-conforming woman with modern sensibilities, living with her snobby family who are on the brink of bankruptcy. When Frederick Wentworth – the dashing man she once sent away – crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances.
Golding's Mr. Elliot offers him a chance to play against his established easygoing type, with the callous and classic Austen foil. Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow wrote the script, while theatre direct Carrie Cracknell will make her film debut with the film.
