Remember our threat to write a news story headed "American Assassin Finds New Rapp Star" when the producers behind the film locked down their leading man? Well, we can’t pull the trigger just yet, but it appears one Christopher Hemsworth may be the CIA’s top terrorist hunter, as CBS Films has offered him $10 million to star.

The film, based on Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp novels, has been in development for years, and has passed through the hands of various filmmakers, including Ed Zwick.

Then in February this year, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, who has clearly been honing his terrorist hunt-directing skills on Homeland, took over the gig, working from a script by Mike Finch.

If – and it’s still only if – Hemsworth makes a deal, he’ll play Rapp back in his younger days, when he was a college scholar and an athlete. A terrorist attack kills someone close to him and he signs on to track down wrongdoers for the agency.

Bruce Willis is still in talks to play his mentor, so we’ll see whether either man signs on. Hemsworth has been busy shooting Thor: The Dark World and is lining up to co-star with Anne Hathaway in Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse, so Nachmanoff and co may have to wait to secure his services.
