Hellraiser Has A New Pinhead

As previously reported, Dimension Films recently made the surprise announcement that, after years of trying to set up a remake, a ninth film in the original** Hellraiser** series was in production. Now Bloody Disgusting have unearthed the scoop that Hellraiser: Revelations** has cast a new Pinhead.

It's Stephan Smith Collins. Nope, us neither. He had a small role in The Darwin Awards with David Arquette a few years ago, and his CV also includes films called Where's My Stuff? and Come Fly With Me Nude.

Doug Bradley was reportedly not at all interested in reprising his signature iconic role (from the Clive Barker original and seven times subsequently) as the creepily elegant, somewhat pierced leader of the demon cenobites, and after Hellworld, you can see why. Revelations, on a tight schedule and an even tighter budget, seems to be in production largely to stop Dimension's hold on the Hellraiser rights from lapsing. It's a step along the longer road to that franchise reboot, whichonce had Martyrs director Pascal Laugier attached.

The film stars Nick Eversman (Vampires Suck) and Jay Gillespie (2001 Maniacs) as Steve and Nico, backpackers in Mexico looking for dodgy new experiences and, natch, stumbling across the famous** Hellraiser** puzzlebox. Nico attempts a Kirsty Cotton-style deal with the devil to avoid his fate, but it seems not to go well, since the cast sheet also lists him as "Pseudo Pinhead". Peta Wilson (from the first TV Nikita and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), is also on-hand.

Victor Garcia (Mirrors 2, Return to House on Haunted Hill) is the director, and the screenplay is by FX make-up guru and Hellraiser fan Gary Tunnicliffe. The last three Hellraisers haven't even ever made it to DVD in the UK. Revelations is scheduled for its DTV release in the US next year.
