Helena Bonham Carter Joins Sweeney Todd

Here’s a shock: Helena Bonham Carter has agreed to a role in her other half’s latest film. Didn't see that one coming, did you?

We're not, however, suggesting that she's anything but perfect for her new role. Carter will get the chance to sing her lungs out as notorious meat pie-maker Mrs Lovett in Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd. And we're guessing she's pretty happy about that, since she complained bitterly at the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory premiere that Burton had cut out all her musical stylings in that film (see here). Lovett is of course the woman who collaborates with Todd (Johnny Depp) to turn his enemies into delicious pastry treats after he slits their throats in his barber’s chair.

John Logan has penned the script and the tunes come courtesy of the Stephen Sondheim musical, of which the film is an adaptation. Cameras are expected to start rolling early next year.

But if you can’t wait until 2008 to see her again, Carter will crop up next year in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, having just completed her stint in that production.
