In addition to funding affordable comedy films, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s freshly launched company Gary Sanchez Productions also has its beady eye on the goggle box.

The company ignited a furious bidding war for its first project, a single camera comedy called P.E. HBO won the battle and will develop and broadcast the show.

To be written by Jody Hill, Ben Best and Danny McBride, P.E. focuses on a major league baseball pitcher whose career takes a dive and heads back to his small Southern hometown to teach physical education at his old school. Unfortunately, his ego-laden rise in baseball saw him shun all his old friends – and now he’ll have to make amends.

The three writers are not complete newbies - they wrote and starred in an indie comedy called The Foot Fist Way, which was screened at this year’s Sundance and landed them an agent.
