Hayley Atwell Joins I, Anna

We’re so used to films announcing their cast long before a single roll of film has spooled through the camera that it’s a bit of a shocker to learn of casting after the movie has actually been shot. But such is the case with I, Anna, whose producers have just announced Hayley Atwell as part of the cast even though the project itself is in the can. That must’ve been a heck of a long contract negotiation!

She’s part of the cast alongside leads Gabriel Byrne and Charlotte Rampling as a detective and a femme fatale caught up in a noir murder mystery. Atwell is playing Emmy, Rampling’s daughter.

Writer/director Barnaby Southcombe (who also happens to be Rampling’s son) wrote the script based on Elsa Lewin’s 1984 novel. He shot the film around London and Hamburg in the last few weeks and is now busy editing the results.

There’s no word on a release date yet as the film is still locking in distributors, though Artificial Eye has it over here. But if you need an Atwell fix, she’ll next be seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, playing Chris Evans’ love interest, the plucky Peggy Carter.
