Amandla Stenberg has been a mainstay of YA filmmaking ever since the first Hunger Games burst onto the big screen in 2012. After playing Rue in the opening instalment of the battle royale saga, Stenberg has gone on to headline her own YA dramas, from 2017’s Everything, Everything, to this year’s kids-with-powers sci-fi adventure The Darkest Minds. Next up, she’s leading a more grounded young adult story in The Hate U Give – a timely look at police violence against young people of colour in America.

Stenberg plays Starr Carter, a teenager living a dual life between the majority-white prep school she goes to and the mostly-black neighbourhood she lives in. When her friend Khalil is shot and killed by a cop, Starr has to find her place in the world and stand up for what she believes in. Empire has a brand new UK poster for the film, both in one-sheet and quad form, which you can take a look at right here.
