In this day and age of remakes, reboots and re-castings, the subject of someone taking on the mantle of Indiana Jones has naturally stuck its head above the parapet. Rumour-level talk of Chris Pratt possibly inheriting the role flared up back in 2015, but since then, the focus has shifted back to the next official reunion of Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg for a last hurrah. Yet if you ask Ford who should next wear the iconic hat, his answer is quite clear: no-one.
"Nobody else is gonna be Indiana Jones!" he laughed when asked about it on the Today show in the States while out pimping his voice role in The Secret Life Of Pets 2. " Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy... This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine this." Pine... Pratt... it's an easy mistake to make, and from Ford's smiling expression (see the whole clip from the video via Twitter here), he's likely making the error on purpose.
Ford, of course, will forever be known as Indiana Jones thanks to his four (or is it three if you don't count the last one as we are wont to do for comedy and personal reasons?) appearances in the role. Honestly, we'd be happy to see him hang up the hat and then have no one else take it down and try it on. The Chrises have their own action franchises anyway, even if Pine does tend to inherit them from the likes of William Shatner and, er, Ford himself (in the case of Jack Ryan).
Regardless, the next Indy movie is still in development. Ford's gruff tones, meanwhile, will be heard in the Pets sequel, which is on UK screens now.
