If you thought Harrison Ford's film career these days was just devoted to him revisiting old characters, he's now locking down a deal to play someone completely new, even if the source material has been around a while. Ford's starring in a new adaptation of Call Of The Wild.

Chris Sanders, himself normally found handling DreamWorks Animation films, is on to direct, working from a script by Michael Green (who previously put words in Ford's mouth for Blade Runner 2049). It'll be a new take on Jack London's 1903 book, which finds gold prospector Jack Thornton braving the harsh conditions of the Yukon during the rush of the 1890s. The story has been interpreted many times in a variety of formats, and was brought to cinemas in 1935 (with Clark Gable starring) and a Charlton Heston-led 1972 film.

The cameras are set to start rolling this September, using a lot of effects to bring the period world to life. Ford had been scheduled to work on the next Indiana Jones film, but with that delayed for script re-writes, his scheduled opened. He will be heard in The Secret Life Of Pets 2, due on 31 May next year.
