Harrison Ford played a dog this year in the movies – at least, he voiced Rooster in The Secret Life Of Pets 2. Next year, he'll be taking the next step and sharing the screen with a pooch. Take a look at the first trailer for literary adaptation The Call Of The Wild...

The latest cinematic version of Jack London's literary classic (itself partly drawn from the evocative work of Egerton Ryerson Young), Wild charts the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team – and later its leader – Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.

Ford is John Thornton, a loner and adventurer who bonds with Buck. From the looks of this, director and DreamWorks Animation veteran Chris Sanders has gone for the family friendly anthropomorphic approach with Buck, and the film uses extensive effects to bring both him and his various settings to life. Will it work? We'll find out when the movie arrives on 14 February.
