Harold & Kumar Directors Defect...

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, writers of both Harold and Kumar films to date, and directors of the second, Guantanemo Bay one, have confirmed that they won't be behind the camera for A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. It's looking as if that job will fall to Todd Strauss Schulson (although the script is still theirs) while they depart for American Pie 4.

The pair will also write the new instalment of the baked-goods-shagging franchise, which, it's intended, will bring the original cast back together. No contracts have been signed yet, but The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business Blog says the project is in "high gear" due to "strong interest" from the actors. Which is surprising, since they've all done so much since the originals.

Technically speaking, AP4 will actually be the eighth film in the series, which has carried on with straight to DVD instalments about the extended Stifler family (in Band Camp, The Naked Mile, Beta House and The Book of Love, we've just discovered on IMDb). But this will - presumably - be the first since 2003 to see the inside of a cinema, and the first to pick up on Jim, Michelle, and whoever else needs the work.

Seann William Scott (Stifler Alpha and the breakout star of the originals) has already indicated that he's resigned to being Stifler forever: "As much as I want to do a part like Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds, I did American Pie three times and then versions of that in ten other movies. If it makes sense and if it makes people laugh..."

More news on the top secret plot as we get it. We're suggesting American Pie vs **Porky's **(APvP) as a viable way forward.
