For years now, Adam Sandler has been cranking out Netflix hits – ranging from the sublime (Uncut Gems, Hustle, Spaceman) to The Ridiculous 6. But as we enter Hubie Halloween season, Sandler’s mind isn’t on reprising the role of Hubie Dubois – no, he’s stepping back into a role from much earlier in his career, one that long-time Sandheads will be thrilled to see him reprise. Nearly 30 years after he first played Happy Gilmore – the ice hockey player turned gold star – Adam Sandler is officially back at it again. Not only is Happy Gilmore 2 a go, but production has officially begun on the much-anticipated sequel.

Netflix confirmed the news in a social media post, indicating that Gilmore is heading back to the golf course at last. Beyond that, little else has been revealed about Happy Gilmore 2, but here’s what we do know: Adam Sandler is back in the central role, and on writing duties alongside co-writer of the original, Tim Herlihy; Christopher McDonald is returning as Shoot McGavin, nemesis of Happy; Benny Safdie will be getting an Uncut Gems Sandler reunion with a role in Gilmore 2; and sports star Travis Kelce is also believed to have a cameo. The film is being directed by Kyle Newacheck, who’s helmed multiple episodes of What We Do In The Shadows.

For now, that’s all the info we have – but with filming underway, we should find out before too long if Happy Gilmore 2 hits the same as the beloved original.
