Retirements in the movie industry are increasingly looking like they're about as long lasting as the average banana. This though, while Hans Zimmer had previously said he was done with writing superhero scores, he never actually retired from composing all together. Still, he's back in capes-and-powers territory for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

The news was revealed by Evan Peters (who returns to the role of Quicksilver for the latest mutant movie), speaking on a recent episode of Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, stating that Zimmer would be working on the new film's score, before immediately worrying that he wasn't supposed to give the information away. So if Quicksilver spends the entire film on fire thanks to CG, you'll know what happened when director Simon Kinberg heard about the revelation.

We'd be interested to learn what drew the music man back; how Kinberg, who is stepping up after years of being an executive producer and writer on the X-Men output to make this one, tempted him to return.

Dark Phoenix represents Kinberg looking to right the wrongs of X-Men: The Last Stand, putting the Phoenix storyline where Jean Grey's (Sophie Turner) powers become ever-increasing, dark and dangerous, front and centre. The movie is arriving on UK screens on 2 November. Zimmer is up for an Oscar for his work on Dunkirk.
