If you were to guess what direction The Handmaid's Tale would take in Season 2, we'd put good money on you coming up with "darker". And indeed, that seems to be the case, as the atmospheric trailer for the new run of episodes makes clear.
Show boss Bruce Miller has been relatively tight-lipped about what we can expect from this new season, the better to let us all experience the story for ourselves. That said, there will of course be a focus on Elisabeth Moss' Offred/June while expanding the world even further beyond Gilead, exploring the life of refugees through Samira Wiley's Moira and also venturing into the Colonies, the seriously polluted areas of North America where some are sent as punishment.
Among the newcomers to the cast this year will be Marisa Tomei (her role is, not surprisingly, unclear at this point), while the story will deal both with elements of original novel author Margaret Atwood's world saved from the first season and enter uncharted territory, with Atwood still involved as a consultant.
Season 2 hits US streaming service Hulu on 25 April, and we'd expect it to make its way here shortly after that.
