Hallstrom Helming A Christmas Carol

Lasse Hallstrom has decided that what the world of film really, really needs is another adaptation of A Christmas Carol.

Yes, though it has been filmed approximately 17,396 times (all right, all right more like 27, if you include all shorts and TV movies, plus Scrooged and The Muppets Christmas Carol – which we most certainly do), Hallstrom has agreed to tackle Universal’s new stab at the old tale.

You surely know the story – Ebenezer Scrooge is taught the true meaning of chrimbo by visits from the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Todd Komarnicki has pitched a take that focuses on a 40-year-old Scrooge.

What we really need is a Ghost Of Classic Films to warn people before they try this sort of thing. The next time Paul Verhoeven so much as flirts with an all-nude Oliver Twist, he’s getting a skeletal tap on the shoulder and a trip through time to discourage his attempts.
