Michael Myers' vice grip on the attention of US cinemagoers doesn't appear to be waning any, as the latest Halloween continued to rule the Stateside charts in its second week. The horror sequel earned $32 million this weekend.

Having crossed $100 million domestically on Friday, the film marks another winner for Team Blumhouse, and has surely unlocked the chance to make a sequel.

So lacklustre were most of the new arrivals' opening figures that that top four remained unchanged. A Star Is Born held on the second place, adding $14.1 million, while Venom kept its slimy talons clutched around third, taking in $10.8 million. Family fare Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween stayed fourth, making $7.5 million.

The only new film to actually make it into the top 10 was Gerard Butler sub thriller Hunter Killer, which pinged the box office radar in fifth for $6.6 million. The Hate U Give remained in sixth on $5.1 million while First Man saw its orbit deteriorate a couple of places, falling from fifth to seventh and $4.9 million.

Eighth was Smallfoot on $4.7 million, with Night School ninth, earning $3.2 million and Jonah Hill's skate drama Mid90s expanding its screen count and made $3 million at 10th. Opening outside the top charts were Johnny English Strikes Again, the spy spoof landing 12th with a splat and $1.6 million (albeit arriving on only 544 screens) and faith-based drama Indivisible, which launched on 830 screens but could only manage $1.5 million.
