Just when we were all getting excited to see the next step in the Halloween franchise, here comes an even more horrific proposition – pandemic-spurred re-scheduling. Yes, hot on the heels of our story about the new movie, Halloween Kills (the first of two follow-ups to the 2018 release), word arrives from producer John Carpenter and director David Gordon Green that the movie will be delayed to 2021. See Carpenter's announcement below.

Yes, it's sad to see the film go back, but we can understand why. In the face of new concerns about cinemas opening back up – particularly in the States – lots of films are continuing to shift their release dates, with studios nervous about lower income.

Halloween Kills, of course, continues the story of the haunted Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), who in 2018's Halloween had re-invented herself as a tooled-up warrior ready to take masked murderer Michael Myers down for good. And she thought she'd succeeded, but we all know that it's never that simple. As the brief teaser for the new movie proves...

Halloween Kills is now scheduled for late October 2021, including a run in IMAX cinemas, with Halloween Ends moving to 2022. And in related news, Universal is also shifting the new Candyman, from September to 16 October, Halloween Kills' old slot.
