When Empire recently talked to Halle Berry about kidnap thriller The Call, she expressed a desire to break out of the drama pigeonhole she feels she’s in and branch out into more comedy work. While we’re not sure that either Berry or anyone who saw Movie 43 would agree it was the right first move, she’ll be hoping for better things for Mother, the indie pic she’s been developing to star in next year.

Mother finds Berry as a bride who leaves her mobster fiancé at the altar and goes on the run. While hiding out, she pretends to be the mother of a young boy, but can’t suppress her wilder ways and causes chaos for those around her.

There’s no word on a director yet, but the cameras should be cranking early next year. From the sound of it, this is hoping to channel a **Sister Act **vibe, which could either mean major laughs or a slightly awkward throwback comedy.

The Call is set to arrive here on September 20. Berry has also shot a return as Storm for Bryan Singer’s mutant-packed** X-Men: Days Of Future Past,** which is out on July 18 next year.
