Hailee Steinfeld is returning to our screens this December via Bumblebee. But she's also looking to star in and produce a new, music-themed film called Idol.

Nothing, one presumes to do with the TV talent contest, the movie will nevertheless chart a young woman's growing musical ambition. After nabbing a job as the assistant to an iconic singer, the girl tries to become her in every way she can. Matt King wrote the script.

Netflix is backing this one, and War For The Planet Of The Apes director Matt Reeves will produce the movie via the deal his 6th And Idaho company has with the streaming service. And because Steinfeld has proven pipes and pop chops, she'll also appear on the original soundtrack for the planned film, to be released via Federal Films, the production arm of Republic Records, where she has her record deal.

Steinfeld, as mentioned, will be seen in Bumblebee, driving in on 26 December. Before that, she's the voice of Gwen Stacey in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, out on 14 December.
