Once it was clear that Nicole Kidman would not be gracing the stage at London's Donmar warehouse for Artistic Director Sam Mendes' last performance, the casting call went out for other A-list actresses to take her place. The first to turn down the role in Proof was Mendes' current squeeze Kate Winslet - but news today suggests an even bigger star is now in the picture. Gwyneth Paltrow has been providing industry gossips with much to talk about since she arrived in London earlier this week. Following discussions on film projects over supper with Jude Law and Sadie Frost, it now transpires that Paltrow is in 'advanced' discussions with the Donmar to take on Kidman's former role. UK theatre website Whatsonstage.com broke the news today that Paltrow has been talking to the Donmar and is apparently on the point of agreeing to take the role which will see her on stage in Covent Garden this summer. Taking the role would mean the chance to team up once more with Shakespeare in Love director John Madden who is directing Proof. Paltrow's role would be that of Catherine, the daughter of a maths genius who sacrifices her life to car for her father during his descent into madness. The role has already been played on Broadway by Jennifer Jason Leigh.
