**Update: **The gang at The Playlist just confirmed that Pearce is indeed aboard the movie.
Ridley Scott's publicity machine remains as tight-lipped as Ryan Reynolds at the end of Wolverine, but those leaks and rumours are still flying. Making a change from the endless is-it-or-isn't-it-Alien speculation though, comes a report from CHUD that Guy Pearce has been spotted on the Prometheus set.
An anonymous email was sent under the pseudonym Brian Blessed (unless it really was from Brian Blessed, which would be awesome), and has since apparently been "corroborated" by, er, two more anonymous emails. It runs thusly (with some bleeping to protect the guilty): "My mate is working on Prometheus as **** and met Guy Pearce on set today. She's previously worked on ****, **** and **** and I've no reason to believe she's lying."
Hey, we really enjoyed ****!
Hardly rock-solid intel, but assuming good-faith on the part of the emailer, assuming Pearce didn't just wander along to say hello, and assuming Brian Blessed's "mate" didn't meet Michael Fassbender and get confused, this is the first anyone's heard of Pearce being involved. If it's true, it is, of course, excellent news. But given his screen-time in The Road and The Hurt Locker, there's no guarantee that he'll be on set for long.
Pearce notwithstanding, Prometheus definitely does number the aforementioned Mr Fassbender in its cast, along with Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Charlize Theron, and Rafe Spall. It's lined up for release next June, so we've more than a year of rumour-mongering ahead of us yet.
