There was cheerful – and unsettling, given the likely content – news back in September when it emerged that Netflix was backing a new batch of episodes for Charlie Brooker’s series Black Mirror. The run of casting great actors in the series continues as Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis are starring in one of the new episodes.
Naturally, the actual plot of the satirically mind, technologically terrifying show is being kept quiet for now – the Black Mirror team doesn’t generally reveal a lot until much closer to the air date, which the new episodes don’t have yet. But with the episodes now shooting, we do know that Owen Harris, who most recently directed music management satire Kill Your Friends, is back for the episode, having already worked on Be Right Back from the second season of the series.
The show has featured the likes of Jon Hamm, Hayley Atwell, Rory Kinnear, Rafe Spall, Domhnall Gleeson, Sicario’s Daniel Kaluuya and Jessica Brown Findlay in the past, and we’d expect the other new episodes to be full of rising talent from both the UK and the US. Mbatha-raw will next appear opposite Will Smith in Concussion (due February 12) and in The Free State Of Jones, which is out on May 27. Davis was Mindy Park in The Martian and will be back for the next series of ‘80s computer drama Halt And Catch Fire.
