It’s interesting to see how different companies sell their movies in trailers. Take, for example, Lionsgate, which has to get across the idea of a polar bear in New York. Instead of opting for story, the marketing team pushes fart gags and wacky madness front and centre. So if that’s the sort of thing that makes you chuckle, or you want to hear a bear voiced by Rob Schneider, check out the trailer for Norm Of The North.
You can never quite tell where a film like this will fall, especially outside of the heavy hitters like Pixar, DreamWorks and Blue Sky. Some, like the popular Nut Job, are big hits and go on to spawn sequels. Others seem to disappear between the cracks. Norm is looking to push the animal madness to the front in the story of a bear who is angered when he learns that a developer is planning to build luxury dwellings in the Arctic. He and some friendly lemmings set off to New York City to stop the new construction, and discovers that it might not be quite as simple as that. But you wouldn’t really know that was the plot from this promo.
With the likes of Bill Nighy, Ken Jeong, Colm Meaney and Heather Graham also in the voice cast, Norm Of The North bounds into UK cinemas on March 18.
