Greta Gerwig Cast In Arthur?

Greta Gerwig is slowly but surely making her presence felt on the film scene, most recently alongside Ben Stiller in Noah Baumbach’s Greenburg. And now she’s poised to take a leap in recognition levels as she’s up for a role in the Arthur remake.

According to Deadline New York, Gerwig is in negotiations to nab the part played by Liza Minelli in the 1981 original: Linda, a charismatic kleptomaniac who attracts the wealthy boozehound.

If she signs on, she’ll be tempting Russell Brand’s party boy away from the plan that his rich family has set for him, and will also share screen time with Helen Mirren, who recently signed to play his valet.

While we’re still not sold on the idea that Arthur needs to be remade at all, at least the talent attached so far (particularly Mirren and writer Peter Baynham) make the pill a little less bitter.
