Jut a few days ago, we learned that X-Men: First Class** co-writer/director Matthew Vaughn was joining the Fantastic Four reboot as a producer to help Marvel-Fox overseer Mark Millar and director Josh Trank on development. Now comes word that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter writer Seth Grahame-Smith has polished the script.
News that Grahame-Smith, who kicked off his career with genre mash novel Pride And Prejudice And Zombies (which is still stuck in movie development hell) and parlayed that into adapting the revisionist Abe Lincoln tale and working on** Dark Shadows** for Tim Burton, has signed on may be welcomed less warmly than that of Vaughn, particularly as the eventual** Vampire Hunter** film didn’t exactly turn out well. Still, let's hope that his clear love of genre cinema translates into a great script this time.
The Hollywood Reporter is also hearing that the film will be taking a more grounded approach to Mr Fantastic, Invisible Girl, the Human Torch and the Thing. Whether that also means darker and edgier is anyone’s guess at this point, but we doubt they’ll push too far in that direction, as the Fantastic Four have always been a more light-hearted superhero team.
There’s still no word on casting, but this is clearly a priority for Fox (and not just so that it can retain the rights to the characters). So what do you think?
