Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, one of the most prolific writing partnerships in Hollywood, have been knocking around for nearly a decade, banging out scripts for the likes of Shanghai Noon (good), the TV show Smallville (not bad), and this year’s Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor (umm… it had lovely scenery).
Of course, what they’ve really wanted to do is direct.
And so the pair today announced that they will step behind the camera on Disney’s Salisbury, a fantasy flick that they co-wrote as a spec script.
Little is known about the movie, other than that it’ll cost around $40 million, it’s named after a fictional town, it will involve a young cast, and a supernatural element is involved. It's not, then, a biopic of former England spinner, Ian Salisbury, which we must admit was our first hope.
The pair have been pretty busy as far as Disney is concerned – they’re producers on the upcoming Hannah Montana: The Movie, God help us all, and they’re also working on a screenplay for Jungle Cruise, based on the Disney theme park ride. They have a first-look deal with the House that Mickey Built, so it’s perhaps a logical progression that they would make their directorial debut there. We wish them well while, at the same time, we wonder which of them gets to shout 'action!' for the first time...?
