Peter Jackson's gargantuan tale of a monkey run amok may have secured a female lead in The Ring star, Naomi Watts. Jackson is reported to be keen on casting the actress in the role of Ann Darrow, the fair maiden with whom Kong develops a powerful fascination. Following in the footsteps of Fay Wray, Watts would find herself the object of primate affection as the actress turned broadway star whose encounter with the giant gorilla makes an indelible impression on the beast's mind - reinforcing the time-honoured ideal that no man, or indeed mutant ape, is so great that he can't be undone by a hot chick in a short skirt. Whether the UK-born actress will find herself in the outsized grip of King Kong himself as he fights off fighters at the top of the Empire State building only Jackson knows, but here's hoping.
