Barely a month after the first trailer, Sony have scared up another selection of Goosebumps scenes to scare you silly. Jack Black stars as the legendary-but-mysterious author R.L. Stine, who has some shiversome secrets locked in his library.
A 1990s publishing phenomenon that's still going strong, Goosebumps is an enormous series of kids' horror novels by the prolific Stine (who, unusually for these things, is a real author and not a pseudonym for a franchise collective). Stine was America's best-selling author for three consecutive years, and was named best-selling kids author of all time in 2003 by the Guinness Book Of Records. He's since been surpassed by JK Rowling, even though she wrote only a piffling seven Harry Potters to Stine's hundred-plus junior spookfests.
In the movie's world, Black plays a reclusive, nervy version of the author, who lives with his daughter, Hannah (Odeya Rush). She’s intrigued by the arrival of a new neighbour, Zach (Dylan Minnette), and the two slowly start to bond. But then Zach and his pal (Ryan Lee) accidentally open one of the original manuscripts Stine keeps locked away… and that leads to a whole heap of chaos when all the weird creatures, monsters and other beasties are suddenly loosed upon their town. Cue a mad rush to get them all back before they can do too much damage.
Rob Letterman (Monsters Vs. Aliens, Gulliver's Travels) is the director, Darren Lemke (Jack The Giant Slayer, Turbo) the screenwriter, and Goosebumps will haunt screens on October 16 in the States and the slightly less Halloween-y February 5 next year in the UK.
