Every Batman needs his Alfred Pennyworth, which offers an actor the chance to play the mannered manservant who has been known to kick bottom occasionally. Into that hallowed pantheon we can add Ralph Fiennes, who has been cast as Lego Batman’s Alfred{ =nofollow}.

The follow-up to The Lego Movie, which puts Will Arnett’s sarcastic take on the Caped Crusader in the spotlight, is promising to draw from all eras and styles of Batman. Joining Arnett in the cast are Michael Cera as Robin and Rosario Dawson as Batgirl. Zach Galifianakis is currently still circling the role of The Joker. Hopefully this will also mean we’ll get to see other Batmen and characters from the many adaptations – is an Adam West cameo too much to hope for?

Chris McKay, who served as animation supervisor and co-editor on the original Lego outing, is this time the main director, working from Seth Grahame-Smith’s script. The film will flap into our cinemas on February 20, 2017.

Fiennes is on screens now as M in Spectre, and he’s part of the cast for Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash, landing February 12 next year and the Coen brothers’ Hail, Caesar!, which follows it on February 26.
