Even among this year’s upcoming fantasy TV treats – the ending of Game Of Thrones, the beginning of the BBC’s star-studded His Dark Materials – the arrival of Good Omens is highly anticipated. Adapted from a beloved source novel from Neil Gaiman and the late, great Terry Pratchett, Amazon’s serialised streaming adaptation is set to bring an offbeat, funny, and very British slant to the end of the world – and the full trailer has now arrived, boasting some impeccable casting and unexpected twists on the book of revelation.
The series stars Michael Sheen as angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as demon Crowley, who team up to stop the impending apocalypse on account of their fondness of Earth – a task that involves tracking down the Anti-Christ who, inconveniently, has gone walkabouts. As you can see in the trailer, Sheen and Tennant are joined by a whole host of familiar faces – including Jon Hamm, as Archangel Gabriel in an expanded role from the novel, as well as Nick Offerman and Jack Whitehall. And while you don’t hear them in the trailer, Frances McDormand and Benedict Cumberbatch are providing the voices of God and Satan, respectively. The adaptation was scripted by Gaiman himself, who also acts as showrunner.
The series is due to arrive in full on 31 May on Amazon Prime Video, with a BBC release set to follow.
