Even as he's in the midst of developing Treasure Of Ali Baba & The 40 Thieves, director Martin Campbell is working on another film. He now has Gong Li aboard to star in Ana.
The Equalizer's Richard Wenk wrote the script, but the details are being kept quiet for now. Variety has learned that the movie has similarities to Luc Besson's Nikita, though apparently one-word female name titles are hip right now, what with Besson's own Lucy and the upcoming Anna.
Li is more normally associated with dramas than action thrillers, but we're intrigued to see what she brings to a movie like this. Producers Arthur Sarkissian and Bruno Wu are aiming to have the cameras rolling in March or April next year. Campbell currently has new Jackie Chan action pic The Foreigner in US cinemas, but that one doesn't currently have a UK release set.
