Somehow it’s that time of year again. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has chosen its nominees for next year’s 75th anniversary ceremony and suddenly the Oscars feel that much closer. At this point last year, Damien Chazelle’s La La Land and Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight emerged as frontrunners, but this year sees a slightly different narrative, with Dunkirk, Call Me By Your Name, The Post, Get Out, Three Billboards, The Shape Of Water and more duking it out during this currently less predictable awards season.
However it’s Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape Of Water that leads the pack with seven nominations, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Post close behind with six a-piece. Greta Gerwig’s critically-lauded Lady Bird follows with four.
In non-surprise news, Meryl Streep’s resident trophy polisher looks set to be on standby for another year and the Call Me By Your Name boys are recognised in their respective acting categories. Elsewhere, Ansel Elgort is the big surprise for his work in Baby Driver, Big Little Lies leads the television nominations, Loving Vincent is recognised for Best Animation, and Christopher Plummer receives a nod for All The Money In The World after stepping in for Kevin Spacey last month.
The winners will be revealed on January 7. See the full list of film and television nominees below:
