Long live the King (Kong)! Yes folks, the return of everybody's favourite furry Titan and his lizard pal Godzilla in the aptly titled Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire has been a kaiju-sized success at the international box-office. As per Box Office Mojo's reporting, the latest instalment in Warner Bros.' MonsterVerse has stomped its way to a whopping $195 million worldwide opening weekend at the box-office — with a projections-busting $80 million of that coming from the US alone. Check out a trailer for the monster mash-up below;

Following hot on the heels of Godzilla Minus One's Oscar success and the MonsterVerse's small-screen debut in the Kurt Russell-starring Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, buzz for big-boy bust-ups on the big screen (try saying that after a few drinks) is at an all-time high. And despite 'Zilla and Kong's latest outing dividing critical opinion, the film — which sees our beloved Titans teaming up to tackle a dangerous threat in the Hollow Earth — is sitting pretty with a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and making some serious bank to boot.

And so, with director Adam Wingard already going on the record to say he has story ideas for a sixth instalment in the MonsterVerse ("I definitely have some ideas of where they could go," he teased in a recent IGN interview), the future for King Kong and Godzilla is looking brighter than Godzilla's lovely new pink atomic patina. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is in cinemas worldwide now.
