In comparison to the 5,000-plus voting members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association hold more power per vote than any other film industry. Today, they wielded that power and released the shortlist of nominations for their annual ceremony, the Golden Globe Awards. This year, the front-runners are Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge and A Beautiful Mind - both with six nominations a-piece. British talent did extremely well with nominations going to Ewan McGregor for Leading Actor (Musical), Maggie Smith and Helen Mirren (for Gosford Park) and Sharon Maguire's Bridget Jones's Diary for Best Picture (Comedy or Musical). In particular, the UK scored two of the coveted Best Actress (Drama) nominations with Judi Dench for Irish and Tilda Swinton for The Deep End. Other Brit nominations included Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Ben Kingsley and Jim Broadbent. Without further ado
