It's safe to say that Tiffany Haddish is having, in the words of musical maestro Lin-Manual Miranda, a bit of a year. She was one of the stars of surprise hit comedy Girls Trip and recently became the first black female stand-up comedian to host Saturday Night Live. She's now adding two new film roles to her considerably full future calendar.
Haddish is in talks to join the ensemble cast of The Kitchen, written by – and aimed as the directorial debut of – Staight Outta Compton's Andrea Berloff. She's adapting Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle's DC/Vertigo comic book that was first published in 2014. Not actually about a superhero chef, it actually takes place in New York's Hell's Kitchen in the 1970s, and sees an Irish mafia operation all but shut down after a raid by the FBI. The wives of the men end up taking over the crime gang and run it with more brutality and efficiency than they ever did.
And then there's The Temp, which would reunite Haddish with Girls Trip producer Will Packer. The movie is keeping its plot line under wraps for now, though Variety reports that's a female-driven comedy dreamt up by Dana Fox, with Haddish also acting as an executive producer.
The actress will also be seen in new Kevin Hart comedy Night School and is developing a film called Limited Partners.
