It's not the best time to be Matthew Lillard, who has just found out he's being replace in the role of Shaggy for a future Scooby-Doo project by Will Forte. Warner Bros. has announced a new cast for its latest animated take on the dog and his mystery solving pals, as Forte, Gina Rodriguez, Tracy Morgan and Frank Welker are all aboard.

Rodriguez is on to play smart sleuth Velma, while Welker, famous for his voice work, and the man behind fellow Mystery Inc. detective Fred in the 1960s Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? 'toon series, is switching to play Scooby. Hinting at the film's wider ambitions, Morgan will be fellow Hanna-Barbera character Captain Caveman, who teams up with our heroes to foil a plot by Dick Dastardly. Sounds like the Warner Animation Group is planning the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe. Jinkies!

The new movie has been in development since at least 2014, with Tony Cervone (a veteran of more recent animated Scooby-ventures) still attached to direct and Chris Columbus amongst its producers. It should arrive in cinemas in May next year.
