While Gina Prince-Blythewood has been deep in development on Sony's Spider-Man spin-off Silver & Black, that movie is facing delays due to script rewrites, which appears to be opening a spot on the director's schedule. She may end up filling it with an entirely different comics-based project, The Old Guard.

Created by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez for Image Comics, the title follows a small group of soldiers who are all inexplicably immortal and have spent the years working as mercenaries. The team, and their leader, a woman named Andy, are more than over the novelty of not dying, but they then learn there's another immortal out there, a black female Marine. At the same time, evidence of their undying nature is captured on camera by a nefarious organisation.

Skydance picked up the rights back in 2017 and though it doesn't yet have a distributor, it's now dashing towards a shooting start this autumn for a hopeful late 2019 release. Which means Prince-Blythewood would make this before returning to Silver & Black, assuming she doesn't decide to leave that one behind altogether.
