Gina-Carano-Kickboxer

Kickboxer remake director John Stockwell recently scored a big get, as Jean-Claude Van Damme agreed to step in and take on the role of a martial arts mentor in the new take on one of the films that launched his career. Stockwell is now adding Gina Carano into the mix{ =nofollow}.

Carano will play a fight promoter, though her UFC skills mean she’ll fit right in to a cast that already includes Van Damme, stuntman and actor Alain Moussi, former WWE wrestler/Guardians Of The Galaxy actor Dave Bautista and Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s Georges St. Pierre. Sara Malakul Lane has also joined the cast as the woman who catches Moussi’s eye.

Moussi takes over the leading mantle as Kurt Sloane, a talented fighter who heads to Thailand intending to learn the secrets of advanced kickboxing mostly so he can confront Tong Po (Bautista), the man who killed his brother. Van Damme is Master Chow, who teaches Sloane what he needs to know.

The film represents a reunion for Stockwell and Carano, who worked together on this year’s In The Blood. Carano will next be seen in hijack thriller Bus 657, which also features Bautista.
