We learned back in February that Christian Bale and writer/director Scott Cooper would reunite for gothic horror tale The Pale Blue Eye. Cooper has since been building the cast around his star, and the latest additions are Gillian Anderson, Robert Duvall and Timothy Spall.
Cooper has adapted Louis Bayard's novel, which revolves around the attempt to solve a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the US Military Academy at West Point. Bale will play a veteran detective who investigates the murders, helped by a detail-oriented young cadet who will later become a world-famous author, Edgar Allan Poe.
Harry Melling, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney and Hadley Robinson are all also in the cast for the film, for which Netflix swiped the rights in a bidding war with other companies. Cooper is shooting the movie right now in Pittsburgh and New York.
